Infrastructure resilience curves: Performance measures and summary metrics

Resilience curves are used to communicate quantitative and qualitative aspects of system behavior resilience stakeholders critical infrastructure. Generally, these illustrate the evolution performance before, during, after a disruption. As simple as may appear, literature contains underexplored nuance when defining “performance” comparing with summary metrics. Through review 273 publications, this manuscript aims define common vocabulary for practitioners researchers that will improve use tool assessing designing resilient This includes taxonomy curve measures well In addition, synthesizes framework examining assumptions analysis often implicit or unexamined in practice literature. From comes recommendations including broader adoption productivity measures; additional research on endogenous targets thresholds; deliberate consideration milestones metrics; cautionary fundamental flaws arise condensing an ensemble into “expected” trajectory.
